Travel Guide Messanagros

50 km from Embonas, this small farming village seems far from everything. A winding road leads to it, in the heights of Southern Rhodes. A few Byzantine churches, a sleepy café and the peaceful flow of life await you. Approximately 5 km to the west, the Panagia Skiadeni monastery nestles in an oasis of serenity and vegetation(skiadi means "shady"). Set on a plateau, it offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. The current buildings date from the 18th century, but the monastery was founded in 1200. Admire the frescoes and beautiful pebble mosaics. A major panigyri festival is held on September 8, to celebrate the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
