Around 15 km south of Prophitis Ilias, the village of Embonas lies at the foot of the highest point in the Dodecanese, Mount Attavyros (1,215 m). It enjoys a beautiful natural setting but is otherwise rather disappointing. This is the wine-growing heart of Rhodes: many wineries here prepare local wine and souma. In the Emery cellars, one of the largest wine producers in Greece, you can taste and buy good bottles. Founded in 1923, the estate has been run by the Triantafillou family for several generations. Last but not least, the Bakis Brothers tavern is renowned for its grilled meats: game, lamb, sausages... you name it.
