Gennadi was quite charming until the fires that ravaged the area in July 2023: you can still cool off on the pebble beach, but the hinterland offers a somewhat desolate ash landscape. Further south, the large bays between Gennadi, Lachania and Plimmiri are untouched, including the magnificent sandy beaches of Agios Georgios and Mavros Kavos. Time has slowed down in the few villages in the area, especially Lachania: almost emptied of its inhabitants in the 1960s, foreigners have bought and renovated its ruined houses. You'll need to hire a car to enjoy the area at your own pace.
