This long stretch of sand, lined with tavernas and sheltered from the wind, is very busy in season. The monastery of the Virgin of Tsambika dominates the bay: the 300-odd steps to reach it are a bit strenuous, but the panoramic view of the sea and beach will reward your efforts. Women who wish to become pregnant come here to pray: according to local beliefs, the Virgin regularly grants their wishes... If a boy is born after praying to the Virgin, it is traditional to name him Tsambikos, and if it's a girl, Tsambika. In summer, a number of buses run to and from Rhodes town every day.
