The easiest and most widespread image of this small town in southern Burgundy is that of the world-famous breed of cattle and sheep, the Charolais. But to reduce it to that would be sacrilege. Meaty pleasures must not obscure those of the eyes. City of Charles le Téméraire and former capital of the County of Charolais, it has preserved many beautiful and numerous vestiges of the 15th and 16th centuries that can still be visited. The Tower of Charles the Bold, the Bailiwick Hall, the Convent of the Poor Clares, the Priory classified as a Cluniac site. Moreover, the landscapes offered by this water city where the Arconce and Semence rivers flow have earned it the pretty nickname of "Little Charolais Venice". All along their intramural route, the 32 bridges and footbridges, some of which lead directly to the houses, are as many beautiful perspectives to be discovered.
