A few kilometres south-east of Giglio, facing the Argentario promontory, the small island of Giannutri is privately owned. With a width of 500 m and a length of 5 km, it offers 260 ha of limestone and dolomitic nature. It is the southernmost island of the Tuscan archipelago, with a half moon shape, hence its mild winter and ventilated summer climate, which has allowed the growth of many tropical plants. There are also beautiful caves along the indented coast, the best known being the Cala dei Grottoni to the south. Famous for the presence of the Mediterranean royal seagull, Giannutri also preserves the remains of a 2nd century Roman villa.
