Once a marshy and unhealthy area, it bears witness to an Etruscan presence thanks to a wall that has been found and dates back to the 4th century BC. Today it is home to the Orbetello nature reserve, which is home to 260 species of aquatic birds. Orbetello is appreciated for its beaches, its expanses between land and water, its lagoons which remind a little of the Camargue. On the lagoon, which is full of fish, fishing is very special because of the ebb and flow of the sea. At the three strategic points of the lagoon there are peschiere, a kind of pool where the fish are quickly trapped. Access by train from Livorno and Grosseto.
