At only 313 metres high, Pitigliano seems to rise irresistibly towards the heavens. The entire town seems to be rising out of the tufo - the tuff, the rock that makes up its soil. Arriving from Manciano, the effect is even more breathtaking. With its 4,000 inhabitants, its cobbled streets that open onto the void (no danger!), the quietness (even in summer), and the particularity of its medieval urban configuration, the village invites you to stop by. Founded by the Orsini in the 14th century, Pitigliano was restructured in the 15th century by Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane, in order to better defend its inhabitants.
