Seat of the municipality, surrounded by imposing walls with ten towers (three circular and seven rectangular), it was erected by the Pisans in the 12th century and later enlarged by the Grand Dukes of Tuscany. The narrow streets, often surmounted by arches, decorated with balzuoli (external stairs), the 18th November square over which the Rocca Aldobrandesca, an imposing defensive construction, dominates, give it a unique charm. It is worth visiting the numerous cellars where the typical amber wine is produced and conserved: the ansonica. The main historical attraction is the castle, inside which is the Church of San Pietro Apostolo, built around 1300.
