The birth of the village of Salin-de-Giraud is particularly recent. Created at the end of the 19th century to house the employees of the Solvay and Pechiney plants, its architecture is characteristic of workers' housing estates and in particular of the corons (geometric alignment and layout of the housing blocks, red bricks, etc.). The two companies built the city and its infrastructures using a large foreign workforce of Italian, Armenian and Greek origin, as evidenced by the presence of the Orthodox church.
