22 km south of Modena, this small town is known worldwide for its delicious varieties of cherries, including the Mora di Vignola, which the Toschi family has been preparing in brandy since 1945 and selling in pretty jars. Vignola can be a pleasant half-day stop to visit the Rocca, a massive fortress with an eventful history, the Boncompagni Palace, and to taste the famous torta barozzi which, since 1907, has been the pride of the local gastronomy. In Vignola, where the tradition of traditional balsamic vinegar is deeply rooted, an Acetaia comunale in the attic of the town hall can be visited upon reservation.
