16 km from Modena, this city known for its ceramics and its soccer club also has an important architectural heritage. The city center is worth a visit, especially for the Palazzo Ducale and the frescoes that decorate its rooms, including the Gallery of Bacchus, painted by Jean Boulanger. The historic center is developed around Piazza Garibaldi, surrounded by porticoes, in the center of which stands the clock tower erected in 1676 by Francesco II d'Este. Via Menotti, via Battisti and viale XX Settembre are the most lively streets. There are grocery stores selling local products, try the Sassolino liqueur made from aniseed.
