As a spa town, Chaudfontaine relies on its water and hot springs to attract tourists. The region also boasts a vast network of signposted walks for horseback riding and cycling. The Maison du Tourisme, located in the Maison Sauveur (Parc des Sources), provides all the information you need. In fact, from Beyne-Heusay to Fléron via Trooz, the walker is spoilt for choice. And although it's no longer strictly speaking a local product, did you know that it was here, in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, that the delicious Galler chocolates were born?Victor Hugo once wrote that Chaudfontaine was the violet of spas. It's a nice compliment, and it's true that the town, located on the banks of the Vesdre river some fifteen kilometers from Liège, has many assets and charm. The spa enjoys an excellent reputation, thanks in part to its hot springs, which have been exploited since the 17th century. You have to taste the mineral water here to appreciate its ideal balance and extraordinary quality. No wonder it's everywhere. In Chaudfontaine, you'll enjoy magnificent walks, the fort, the Château des Thermes, the casino and the open-roof swimming pool supplied with thermal water. The Chêvremont Basilica, on the south side of the hill, has been attracting pilgrims since the 7th century.
