It is a town of 1,200 inhabitants without much activity, but it is sufficiently developed to offer some shops and to allow you to buy supplies. The town is known for having been the site of a confrontation in 1111 between the Galicians, supporters of Doña Urraca, and the Aragonese, who supported Alfonso I of Aragon. The battle took place in the place known today as La Matanza. Its church of Santiago del Camino preserves an altarpiece that represents the image of St. James matamore. The church is not always open, but you can ask around and someone will probably find the key for you.
