It has a population of about 500 inhabitants, and in the past it housed a hospice for pilgrims dating back to the 12th century. The existence of the municipality is documented since 1177, when it declared its vassalage to the monastery of San Marcos de Leon. The parish church of El Arcangel San Miguel preserved a 15th-century representation of Saint James, which was later transferred to the Museum of Leon. There are a few shops in San Miguel to refuel, including a bakery and a grocery store. If you need a drink or just a seat, there is also a bar in the center.
