Located at 20 min from the center of Lisbon by taking the train, you will often see this last one half empty when arriving at Carcavelos. And for good reason! This is where the largest beach on the coast is located with its 1.5 km long stretch of white sand. At the end sits proudly the fort of Sao Julião de Barra, whose construction dates back to the 16th century. Carcavelos beach is very popular with surfers, especially during the off-peak season. Every year it hosts the Rip Curl Pro Portugal competition. Here, a bit like in Rio, there are nets to play beach volleyball or soccer. Finally, you should know that this beach is very lively during the school vacations.
