The Flemish name of the town is Geraardsbergen and literally means "Gerard's Mountain". Grammont was one of the first free towns in the Kingdom of Flanders before being destroyed once in the 14th century and again in the following century. Marked by the torments of History, the city was rebuilt and is today the sum of 15 municipalities forming a whole very appreciated by tourists. Indeed, nestled as it is on one of the slopes of Mount Oudenberg, the city offers a breathtaking view of the Flemish Ardennes. Even if the city remains modest in size, its riches are no less exceptional!
