Chalong lies to the south of Phuket, in the eponymous bay opposite the island of Koh Lon. Thanks to its pier, it is a major departure point for Koh Phi Phi and many other important diving spots. The town is also famous for its sumptuous temple, Wat Chalong, the largest of the island's 29 temples. The marina at Chalong is the nerve center for travelers on deep-sea fishing and diving excursions (some 20 centers in all share the local market). All boats arriving in Thailand via the Andaman Sea must register at the marina office.
