15 km from Latacunga (and 2,600 m above sea level). The full name of the town is San Miguel de Salcedo, named after Father Augustine Miguel Salcedo. On October 10, San Miguel's day commemorates the city's feast day. The large Tuesday and Saturday market is famous in the area but mainly for its agricultural products. The traditional church, which dominates the central square and the town, is not of major interest. However, its proximity to one of Ecuador's most famous hosterías makes Salcedo a popular weekend destination for the capital's wealthy residents. Pinol, the local specialty, is a sweet treat to be discovered.
