Located at an altitude of 2,114 m, 135 km west of Guatemala City, Sololá is the capital of the department of the same name. Its main attraction is its traditional market, held every Tuesday and Friday. From livestock to textile stalls and fruit and vegetable stands, there's a rare variety of colors on offer from vendors from all over the region. As such, it was one of the first places of exchange between the ethnic groups that populate the western Altiplano: the Kaqchikel, the Quiché and the Tz'utujil. This makes it an interesting half-day visit.
