The beautiful little island of Noss lies only 100 m west of Bressay Island and 5 km from Lerwick as the crow flies. Triangular in shape, it covers 313 ha and rises from west to east to the cliffs of its eastern coast, where it culminates at 181 m at Cape Noup. It is classified as a national nature reserve, under the auspices of Scottish Natural Heritage, for its seabird colonies of nearly 100,000 individuals. The reserve can be visited from mid-May to the end of August, every day except Monday and Thursday, from 10am to 5pm. A shuttle bus leaves from Bressay (east coast) to cross the 100 m of Noss Sound.
