Located in the north of Shetland, 4 km east of the island of Yell, south of the island of Unst, the small island of Fetlar measures about 8 km from west to east, and culminates at 159 m at Vord Hill. It has no more than a hundred inhabitants, mainly farmers. Its name comes from the old Scandinavian and means "fat land". The island is characterized by a tundra ecosystem, to which it owes the privilege of gathering rare birds. Don't miss the remains of habitats dating back to the Stone Age, the passage of the Picts and the Scandinavian invasions, until the 19th century when the Laird expelled entire villages to settle... his sheep!
