4 km² is the size of this tiny island, for 70 inhabitants. Its lighthouse, at Bound Skerry, is only 164 nautical miles (320 km) from the nearest lighthouse in Norway. The island lives from the sea - fishing and viticulture - but also from the land, with its many sheep and their wool. Knitting is a tradition here! Visitors are welcome. In summer, Skerries is home to many seabirds and wading birds. It is also a great place to observe porpoises and whales. The island of Skerries can be reached by ferry from Mainland: in 1h30 every day from Vidlin (or Laxo) harbor and in 2h30 from Lerwick.
