This island has one of Shetland's most spectacular coastlines, with its rocky arches, pillars, sea caves and gigantic reefs. It has been designated as a Special Area of Conservation. It can be explored by boat or by diving into the maze of caves. Several sites on the island are known for their great geological, archaeological and ornithological interest. It is also a land of crofts with fertile soils. Norwegian legends are also discovered, including that of the Frau Stack. A Norwegian lord is said to have imprisoned his daughter in the cave of Housa Voe for refusing an arranged marriage.
