Whalsay, the center of the Shetland fishing industry. It offers beautiful coastal walks thanks to its 8 km length and 3.2 km width. Its summit, the Ward of Clett, reaches 120 m. The island is known for its important archaeological sites and for its fauna and flora. Symbister is a must-see, for its authentic harbor and for the Whalsay Heritage Centre. Also not to be missed is the Symbister Pier House Museum which tells the story of the trade with the ships from Hamburg. Accommodation on Whalsay is limited, so it is best to book in advance. It takes 25 minutes by ferry from Laxo (30 km north of Lerwick, Mainland).
