Located 20 km southwest of Cherbourg, Les Pieux underwent profound changes during the 1980s and 1990s. The reason? The construction of the Flamanville nuclear power plant, only 4 km from here, which metamorphosed this small and unnamed county town by allowing it to have high level facilities. If the main interest of the town is the numerous shops you will find there, its beach, called Sciotot, is a popular meeting place for summer visitors and surfers, on this western coast of the Cotentin, which is reputed to be warmer than the eastern one. The view on the beach, from the heights, is splendid.
