Not far from this village perched on a hill, Roman remains have been discovered. Ripacandida also has a frescoed church, defined as the "little Assisi of Basilicata". Dedicated to San Donato, bishop of Arezzo and patron of Ripacandida, the Gothic church is located at the entrance of the village. It was built in 1325 on the ruins of a previous church from the year 1000. Its unique nave is decorated with frescoes from the first half of the 15th century, made by an anonymous local artist. They illustrate scenes from the Old Testament: Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark and the Tower of Babel (daily 7:30am-12pm; 3pm-5pm).
