Vico del Gargano is one of those villages with a country atmosphere that you cannot find on the coast. Its atmosphere is a bit disorienting: many of its houses are in a rather bad state. You can visit its 13th century castle with its big round tower, and the Capuchin convent which is typical of Franciscan buildings. The village is also known for the sfilata delle fracchie that takes place on Good Friday. The fracchie are wooden trunks of 5 or 6 meters covered with branches held together by straps and mounted on iron wheels. The inhabitants walk in procession, pulling behind them these burning fracchie that turn into braziers.
