Perched on a rocky promontory, Peschici, smaller and less crowded than Vieste, but just as captivating, has a historic centre made up of small, low domed houses. Founded in 970 by Sueripolo, chief of the Slavs, this fishing village contains the ruins of a Norman castle and its tower(Rocca Imperiale), which were occupied by all the invaders who succeeded one another in the area. There are other remains of ancient fortifications (walls, arches). The territory of Peschici has some of the most beautiful beaches of the coast, punctuated by the silhouettes of the trabucchi : the cove of Calenella, the bay of San Nicola, the bay of Manaccora..
