He is, with Troia, one of those villages where the traces of history are the most numerous. Hannibal stopped there in 217 BC, when the city was a Roman colony. From this period, Bovino kept some water tanks and ruins of a water supply. In the Middle Ages, he was the seat of the bishop, today he is part of the «most beautiful villages of Italy».
