Between the lakes of Lesina and Varano, San Nicandro is one of the most populated villages of the Gargano. Perched on the top of a hill, its 15th century castle is built on the foundations of a fortress built by the Normans. The Terravecchia district is worth a visit; picturesque with its steep streets, whitewashed houses and castle, it is the medieval heart of the city. Not to be missed is the beautiful Corte San Giorgio. In the surrounding area there are karstic reliefs that tear the landscape apart, such as the Pozzatina sinkhole, a natural amphitheater 100 meters deep and 1,850 meters wide.
