Arriving from the Poggio Imperiale motorway tollbooth or from the north, the first thing to do is to stop at the Lesina and Varano lakes. Seen from above, these two lakes offer a rare sight. They are so close together that it is difficult to make out their outlines, and so close to the sea that binoculars are needed to distinguish the strip of land that separates them from the Adriatic. The lake of Lesina, separated from the big blue by an 800 m long dune called Bosco-Isola, is connected to the sea by a canal and a mouth. On this very long (20 km) and narrow lake, eel fishing is practiced. A transport service offers catamaran trips.
