This peaceful village is the main port of the Montenegrin part of Lake Skadar, with a beautiful view of it. Until the 19th century, it occupied a strategic position against the Ottomans: Virpazar was the stronghold of one of the ruling clans of Montenegro. It was here that in 1702 a bloody historical event took place: the execution of renegade Montenegrins who, having converted to Islam, refused to return to Christianity, despite the injunction of Danilo I. Today, Virpazar is a peaceful fishing village whose life is punctuated by the daily departures, in summer, of cruise ships on the lake.
