Long sandy beaches and the charm of its walled old town have long made Budva the busiest and most touristy town on the coast, lying like a water lily on what was once an island. The old town is mentioned as early as the5th century BC, but its present appearance dates from the Venetian period. The city was badly damaged by the earthquake of 1979 and was rebuilt after eight years. The modern city has undergone impressive development since then. With its Saint-Tropez-like appearance, Budva is the undisputed place to be for the jet-set and the trendy youth.
