Travel Guide Lesendro (Лесендро)

Fortress on the lake and Montenegrin defense system. Built in the 18th century, it served during the time of Prince-Bishop Petar II Petrović-Njegoš both as a defense point against the Turks and as a commercial hub. It is said that Njegoš wrote and sang some passages from his epic poems here. It commands the upper part of the lake. You can't miss it, it is located on the bridge, on the main road, just before Virpazar, coming from Podgorica. The site is freely accessible. With its eight towers and its wall still visible, it is as if it was placed on the lake: it gives the magical impression of walking on water.
