The origins of the charming village of Riva San Vitale on the shores of Lake Lugano go back thousands of years. It was with the spread of Christianity (around the5th century) that the lakeside village grew in importance and became a center of religious influence in Ticino. The town still bears witness to the passage of the Romans, with its remarkable baptistery, one of the oldest preserved Christian monuments in Switzerland.
