The origins of the charming village of Riva San Vitale on the shores of Lake Lugano go back thousands of years. It was with the spread of Christianity (around the5th century) that the lakeside village grew in importance and became a center of religious influence in Ticino. The town still bears witness to the passage of the Romans, with its remarkable baptistery, one of the oldest preserved Christian monuments in Switzerland. The Santa Croce church, with its 16th-century Renaissance decor, is also worth a visit, while the Bianchi house in the village features contemporary architecture that is both surprising and interesting.
