Here you are in the administrative and economic capital of Vest-Agder with 84,000 inhabitants (the country's fifth largest city). Kristiansand is the largest city in Sørlandet. Kristiansand is one of the "white cities" of the south coast. The "Renaissance" character of Skippergaten street makes it a charming place with charming little white wooden houses.Kristiansand is one of the country's busiest ferry ports; the city is primarily industrial. In recent years, however, the town council has been keen to develop two other assets: university life and cultural dynamism. Made up of right-angled streets, the city was built in 1641 by royal decree of Christian IV, who still applied his Kvadraten system (in Oslo, the same principle has been applied to such an extent that one of the capital's districts is called Kvadraturen), the Quadrature.
