Mandal, Norway's southernmost town, located about 40 km south of Kristiansand, is also famous for having the country's most beautiful beach, Sjøsanden. The old town with its winding streets and small white houses lies to the west of the harbour. Mandal is the birthplace of the painter Adolph Tidemand and the sculptor Gustav Vigeland. This is an idyllic location to spend some quality time with the family in one of the few small cafés in this charming town of about 11,000 inhabitants. In winter, it doesn't snow much here, which is why the locals go further north to practice Norway's national sport
