This long, wild beach lies at the northern end of Pemba Island, on the western flank, facing the mainland, just beyond the village of Makangale. Verani is a group of traditional mud houses with makuti roofs, planted with vegetable crops and palm trees. The site is very pretty and is close to the so-called "fugitives' cave". We pass through it on our way to the extensive wild beach at the tip of Ras Kigomasha. It's a lovely walk to take after a visit to the Ngezi forest, for example. Hotel Manta Lodge organizes snorkeling trips in this area, where the coral reefs are magnificent.
