Maria Saal is known for its church, a place of pilgrimage. It dates from the 15th century. Originally, in addition to its spiritual and religious vocation, it had a defensive role, as a defence against the Magyars, and later the Turks. Its defensive wall with two twin towers can still be seen, allowing the enemy to be seen from a distance. Inside the church there is a rich collection of furnishings, including beautiful organs and, above all, the object of the traditional pilgrimage, the famous statue of the Virgin Mary, which dates from 1425. You can also visit an open-air museum, a reconstructed village presenting the rural habitat of yesteryear.
