Not to be confused with the capital of Alsace! The Austrian Strassburg is an old fortified medieval town. It is dominated from a hill by a beautiful castle dating from 1147, which has been considerably altered over the centuries and houses the town museum, which presents a folklore collection on the life of the peasants of the Gurk valley. There are also two churches, the Gothic parish church of St. Nikolaus and the church of St. Margaretha in Lieding, the oldest in the Gurk valley, with its beautiful stained glass windows. The small town is characterised by its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful scenery.
