This small town, founded in the ninth century, retains some beautiful relics of history: pieces of the wall wall (twelfth century), a parish church (Stadtpfarrkirche) of remarkable Romanesque age especially for the stained glass windows, a Dominican monastery built in 1673 around older buildings (including a church in the xivcentury), or the Heiligblutkirche (Thirteenth century). On Petersberg Hill, west of Friesach, you can admire the church Sankt Peter, the tenth century, a xiith century tower and the ruins of a castle. In the north of the city, another ruined castle, the one of Geiersberg (XII century), was partially restored.
