North-west of Graz, a pleasant town with some historic buildings which owes its name to the Jewish merchants who made it one of the great business centres in the Middle Ages, before being expelled by the Emperor Maximilian. The town hall, a 14th century belfry, a town museum and some historic houses are worth seeing. In the summer, concerts are given in a festive atmosphere. In June, the local festival mobilizes the whole region. Saturday morning farmers' market. This region of the Seetaler Alpen, dominated by the Zirbitzkogel (2,397m), is beautiful. Among the neighbouring villages, visit Oberzeiring and its museums (of tobacco, of nature).
