Franz Schubert spent three weeks here, in the house that became the Straubinger Hotel, working on the Sonata opus 53 and the Symphony in C major. The 15th-century St. Nicholas' Church contains Gothic frescoes and the oldest stone pulpit in the Salzburgerland. The 19th-century parish church stands out with its baroque elements and a 15th-century wooden Madonna. You can visit the mining town and the Gastein Museum of Natural Sciences (fauna, flora, geology, ore).
