The town is known for its beautiful promenade along the lake and for its 14th century Leonstain Castle, which has been converted into a hotel. The castle was home to Johannes Brahms. The surrounding landscape is said to have inspired him to write a violin concerto and his Symphony No. 2. With its privileged natural environment, the town is a popular holiday destination. In addition to the water sports on the Wörthersee, there are numerous sports (golf, tennis, etc.) and hiking trails. The chic resort on the lake is extinguished in the winter and regains its splendour in the spring. If the beautiful old villas are legion, some pavilions and modern shops disfigure it a little.
