Between Assisi and Foligno, Bevagna is a small treasure trove of minor architecture in the Middle Ages. There are not many masterpieces, but the whole, warmly maintained in the walls of Roman origin, is remarkable. Its history, after the Roman foundation and its domination of the beginnings of the valley (it was the ancient Mevania), is that of slow and continuous impoverishment: no large family, a gradual relaxation of economic ties, and a drop in the birth rate due to the depopulation of the countryside after the Second World War. But Bevagna's misfortunes also make his happiness. The lack of large stately houses, its small small and the lack of first-class tourist attractions make it a quiet and pleasant place.
