Beautifully situated on a hill of olive trees, between the valleys of Ombrone and Asso, it is the homeland of the famous Brunello di Montalcino, one of the greatest wines of Italy (if not of the world!), which can be tasted in cellars hidden in a cave that dominates the medieval town. The urban center was born around the 10th century but it is only during the 13th century that it took on its current appearance, which is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The walking tour around the ramparts offers beautiful views of the hillside strewn with terraced crops and the surrounding countryside, a source of inspiration for many painters.
