Surrounded by a lush green landscape of hills and mountains, Nocera Umbra stands white and solemn on the Topino valley, between the Subasio and Pennino mountains. The Lombards settled here in 571 and the necropolis of the Portone still bears witness to their influence on the town. The city owes its popularity to the reputation of its thermal waters with therapeutic virtues since the end of the 18th century. In 1997, this Umbrian town was hit hard by the earthquake, so much so that 83% of the population lost their homes. It took twenty years for the town to rebuild
