An important commercial centre under the Marquises Del Carretto, allies of the Milanese, Finale reached its peak in the 17th century when the town was sold to the Spanish. It was to them that the restructuring of the walls and the construction of the majority of the religious buildings were owed. In 1707, Finale came under Genoese rule. Today, three villages make up the commune, united by the recent economic expansion: Pia, Marina and Borgo. Marina has one of the most pleasant shady seaside promenade of the coast. Borgo has one of the best preserved historical centres in the area
