Despite its small size, the town of Busua played a major role in the Western Region. While this is less true today, the village chief has long held an important leadership role and people often came from far and wide to rely on him for answers to their problems. According to legend, the chieftaincy was established in this village after a whale vomited a chief's seat on the beach. The animal is the symbol of the town. Busua is also the summer resort of the area. There are many good quality places to stay overnight. It is also a perfect spot to learn to surf.
